A Closing Note From The Commissioner

As we conclude the 2025 season, and my first season as Commissioner, I would like to give some credit to the incredible individuals that keep our organization running.

At the end of the game on Saturday, November 1, 99 players, 22 coaches and a 12+ support staff lined up at center field representing UNB and Dalhousie. Every one of them performed with enormous heart, maximum effort and their best skills within their own roles, both on the road to the Championship, and there on the field. Emotions were high, whether elation or dejection. In time, every person involved in this contest should be proud of their memories of this season and the absolute value of the experience.

It was an honour to present the Moosehead trophy to Dalhousie Tigers and to congratulate the UNB Reds.

The AFL had approximately 240 hard working players competing this year. Plus over 40 coaches and dozens of support staff, equipment managers, trainers, general managers and governors. All are volunteers.

They plan, practice, train, teach or learn skills and techniques, treat and rehabilitate injuries, review film, adjust strategies, mentor, motivate, counsel, consult and manage it all. The players develop athleticism, character, leadership skills, strength, speed, knowledge of the game, sportsmanship and friendship within the team but also with opponents. The numbers of hours put in by all these people are incalculable.

For every game, the timekeepers, yardstick and downsbox personnel, broadcast (livestream) technicians, camera operators, announcers, security personnel, and other sundry duties all play vital roles to present this incredible sports entertainment.

Parents, friends, students, alumni, cheer teams and sponsors contribute as well, whether by financial, emotional or verbal support. The crowd in attendance at this game was estimated at 900, not as large as the 2500 at a warmer September game, but still respectable. Livestream viewers were upwards of 5,000. The entertainment value of our league is outstanding. When you see the pinpoint throws, spectacular catches, brilliant runs, powerful blocking, O and D line struggles, strong tackles, clever playmaking and strategic planning, you may agree our league is fielding fantastic sporting events here for Atlantic Canadians. Every person involved in their own way should take great satisfaction in being a part of this league, and I extend my congratulations and my gratitude for all you contribute.

Here is to the great work and impact of the league continuing through to our 2026 AFL Season Kickoff.
